Do you obsess over engineering problems even after you clock out?
Are you a garage tinkerer, weekend project warrior, or systems thinker who thrives on turning ideas into tangible products? If you find joy in solving tough design problems, building prototypes, and shipping real hardware, we want to meet you.

At Hatch Duo, we design award-winning products across wearables, medtech, fitness, robotics, and consumer electronics. We move fast, work hands-on, and care deeply about doing excellent work. Our studio blends startup energy with deep design and engineering expertise—and we’re looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join us on a contract basis (with a strong path to full-time if it's a mutual fit).

What You’ll Do
- Lead mechanical development from concept through production
- Develop system architectures, mechanical strategies, and detailed part designs
- Collaborate with industrial design and EE teams to bring ideas to life
- Design for manufacturing: execute clean CAD (SolidWorks), and DFM
- Own client communications and vendor coordination where needed
- Travel is required for client and vendor visits—and if remote, you’ll be expected to travel to our Bay Area headquarters approximately 3–4 times per quarter. This expectation is factored into overall compensation.
- Jump between projects and industries with agility and discipline

About You
- 5–10 years of mechanical engineering experience in consumer, medtech, or related hardware
- Proficient in SolidWorks—surfacing and solid modeling, top-down, bottom-up, and master modeling, clean part structure
- Strong grasp of plastic part design, injection molding, machining, and prototyping methods
- Fluent in 2D documentation,  BOM creation, and DFM/DFA best practices, working knowledge of GD&T
- Comfortable with vendor engagement, prototyping, and client-facing updates
- Highly accountable, low-ego, and thrives in hybrid/remote environments
- Local to the Bay Area is a plus—but not required if you can meet the travel expectation

Why This Isn’t Just Another Contract Gig
You’ll join a small, tight-knit award winning team that works on meaningful products with forward-thinking founders and startups. You’ll be empowered to own your work but supported by experienced peers. We’re curious, fast-moving, and deeply focused on outcomes—not red tape. If you prove yourself here, there’s a path to full-time in just a few months.
