A robot designed to be trusted, Not to be human
Homes with young children lose an enormous share of the day to a problem nobody talks about: picking things up. Parents spend hours navigating toys and clutter instead of the time they'd rather spend with their kids, and every minute of it comes out of the part of the day that actually matters. OOPLA was born from the need for a cleanup and assistive robot built specifically for households with young children, a home that cannot be redesigned around a machine, and a task, toy pickup, that cannot be narrowed to fit one. OOPLA is a wheeled-base, torso-and-arm platform resolved as one considered object rather than an assembly of exposed brackets and actuators, with rounded, slightly juvenile proportions and oversized hands that telegraph intent before they ever reach for a toy. By combining legible, slow-and-deliberate motion with a form no child needs to be taught to trust, the platform lets parents hand off the end-of-day reset without ever needing to supervise it, ensuring that the time it saves goes back to the family in the room rather than the floor around them.
