The collaboration between ZIIP Beauty and Hatch Duo began with a comprehensive audit of the existing ZIIP GX microcurrent therapy device. This analysis set the foundation for a design process that focused on streamlining the device's structure, reducing manufacturing costs, and enhancing aesthetics and user experience.
Hatch Duo's industrial design team meticulously refined product concepts, keeping in mind ZIIP Beauty's long-term brand goals and addressing opportunities for optimization identified by Hatch Duo’s mechanical engineering team.
ZIIP HALO's design innovations speak to its blend of aesthetics and functionality. Drawing inspiration from massage stones and other skincare rituals, the device features smooth curves that enhance its ergonomic experience, seamlessly integrating into users' skincare routines. The color, material, and finish (CMF) strategies resonate with modern beauty trends, making the device a visual delight. A full wraparound LED light ring replaces the ZIIP GX's metal band, providing both a captivating visual element and essential operational information.
Hatch Duo's engineering prowess addressed key challenges, including galvanic corrosion and manufacturing efficiency. The redesign minimized the bill of materials (BOM), simplifying assembly and manufacturing processes. High-cost machined parts were replaced with injection-moldable components, while electrodes were designed for easy snap-in assembly. These engineering achievements not only enhanced device performance but also substantially lowered manufacturing costs.
The collaboration culminated in the ZIIP HALO—a testament to innovation, aesthetics, and efficiency. The transformation from ZIIP GX to ZIIP HALO marked a significant evolution, with improved aesthetics and user experience. The LED light ring introduced an engaging visual element that also communicated operational information. This partnership between ZIIP Beauty and Hatch Duo not only redefined beauty experiences but also set new industry benchmarks in skincare technology.
